They say sky’s the limit. Well, apparently that does not apply to the internet.

The online world is literally flooded with marketers; you’ll find a thousand categories of businesses and millions, possibly billions  of brands, products and services under those categories. In the past 10 years, technology has evolved so rapidly that anyone has the power to sell almost anything on the internet, including human organs!

Even if you open a business and advertise your services extensively but skip the online marketing part, no one would ever know of your existence. Marketers these days are anxiously following  big names in the online business space, hoping to get the same spotlight as they’re proteges. However, even after using every possible online marketing channel , can your business really stand out from the thousands of businesses marketing similar products and services?

In a nutshell, the answer is a resounding no, especially if you’ve only cared about how many followers you’ve gained rather than how many of them you have engaged on a deeper level mentally and emotionally.

To be an online marketing guru, we need to first understand all the channels and mediums involved. Today, the biggest marketing and advertising channel is social media; however, it doesn’t cover all aspects of online marketing. Search engine optimization (SEO) is all about having your website listed on top in search results by using certain keywords and content that’s relevant to your chosen niche. To serve the purpose, Google Adwords really comes in handy and further amplifies the power of social media as an advertising and marketing platform.

It’s also important to understand how to harness the power of each social media platform. For instance, Facebook allows you to manage ads and posts, which help you target a reel in a niche audience to your business page. Youtube, on the other hand, is all about videos.All you need to know is what it takes to make great videos that you’re audience will love. Improving rankings by getting maximum views and followers is what brings your business in the limelight.

You now have a clear picture of what online marketing is and you also know some of the ways to do it. But how do you put this all together? Because people don’t actually care about opening every email they receive from you until the subject line prompts them to open it and read every word. How you create the subject line is what  matters, not the number of emails that  you send.

It’s important to have a solid marketing strategy which needs to be planned months or even years ahead of time. For example, you create a teaser in order to circulate more hype around your soon to be launched product to  keep your audience better engaged. Rather than launching the product to a mass audience that gets bombarded with irrelevant ads day and night,  have a solid marketing plan that puts laser-like focus on your niche audience. Because if you don’t, the worst that can happen is that they’ll unfollow you, let alone recommend your business to anyone else.

The bottom line is this: you need to strive for better engagement and connectivity with your niche audiences rather than attempting to market to the masses. Follow the above steps in your quest to develop a full-proof online marketing plan.
